My Story at Children’s Minnesota
Hello, my name is Asher Denkmann and I am a highschool freshman who was born in 2008.
When I was born, I was on the brink of death. From the moment I was born, I was whisked away by a team of 7 people to the NICU. I was a 28 week early baby, along with my brother. But I was the first. I had tubes plugged into me, l had to get help breathing, I had to be fed through those tubes. It sounds bad, but if I hadn't got this treatment, I would never have survived. And after I was whisked to the NiCU, l was cared by nurses and doctors around the clock to check on me and check my oxygen, something that I needed for eleven weeks with a mask. My own parents couldn't hold me until 2 weeks after I was born. They had to put me on a temperature controlled bed to keep me warm.
My whole life, my whole existence, is because of the people at Children's. They managed to get me strong enough like a normal baby, and one time they even had to get my heart stable. If these people hadn't been here, I would have died.
This year, money is being raised to support the neurosciences program. And while that did not impact me directly, the organization and the people who worked here did. So consider donating to help Children's hospital.
