Children's Minnesota has always held a special place in my heart. Diagnosed with a rare disease at eighteen-months-old, I had tumors covering 75% of my organs. My life expectancy was arbitrary; doctors confided with my parents that it would be miraculous if I lived past age three. I had endured ten surgeries by age four, and by five I believed the hospital was home and the providers were my family. As a child, I did not fully comprehend what each specialist’s specific role in my care was, but their support left a lasting, positive impression in my life. I was not always in control of what would happen, but Children's Minnesota always made sure that I felt safe and comforted during these times and that although I was not at home, I felt as if I was home. I still do not understand why my disease manifested, but I do understand why I easily mistook my care team as family. I was not expected to graduate kindergarten, yet because of the genuine support from Children’s Minnesota, I was able to return to Children’s Minnesota 25 years later as a Physician Assistant (PA-C) to give back and help care for other children just as they had for me. 

I am now excited to announce that I am partnering with Children’s Minnesota and plan to run in the 2024 Grandma’s Garry Bjorklund Half Marathon to raise money and awareness for children who are still in need of love and support during their ongoing battles. Together we can help raise funds so more children can get the care they desperately need and live out their dreams, too. Join me in helping to make a difference in a child’s life and to provide them with the comfort and care they truly deserve. Join me for a day of celebration and of life!
